The COVID-19 Vaccine
The providers at South River Pediatrics recommend the COVID-19 vaccine for all eligible patients.
Recently, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for all children aged 12 years and above. Both the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) support vaccination for COVID-19 in all eligible pediatric patients. The CDC also stated that the COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at the same time as other routine vaccines.
Vaccine efficacy for this age group was 100%, with their immune response being better than those aged 16-25 years.
This vaccine is given in two doses, 21 days apart. You can make an appointment at your local pharmacy or find a vaccination site at the following link: https://massvax.maryland.gov/
The most common side effects were pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache, chills, muscle pain, fever, and joint pain.
According to the CDC, contraindications include those with a history of severe or immediate allergic reaction to a previous dose or a component of the vaccine.
