Hey Parents! Looking for a trusted place to get your child’s ears pierced? At South River Pediatrics, we offer ear piercing exclusively for our established patients who are up to date on their well exams and vaccinations.
Meet Krystal Tibbs, CPNP—our skilled Nurse Practitioner who provides this service. Even if she’s not your child’s regular provider, Krystal is available to pierce ears at both of our locations (depending on her schedule). You can trust her to take great care of your child during the process!Did you know? Dental cavities are the most common chronic disease in kids—five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than seasonal allergies. Crazy, right?
Here’s the scoop: cavities are caused by bacteria. Add sugar (and sometimes salt) to the mix, and you’ve got a recipe for tooth decay. But the good news? Cavities are preventable!
That’s why pediatricians and dentists work together to keep your child's smile healthy. At every well-check visit, we monitor your child’s oral health, because those little teeth need regular care too.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends fluoride varnish every 3-6 months starting at age 6 months. Fluoride varnish helps prevent cavities by strengthening tooth enamel and protecting against harmful bacteria and acids.
At South River Pediatrics, we apply fluoride varnish at each well-check visit for children ages 9 months to 3 years. We also recommend seeing a pediatric dentist by age 1-2 to ensure a lifetime of healthy smiles! When your child is sick or hurt, we’re here when you need us most. Whether it’s a fever, cold, flu, or even COVID symptoms, our team at South River Pediatrics is ready to help get your little one back on track.

Weekend Sick Visits? Absolutely! Our Edgewater location is open Saturdays from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm to care for urgent needs.
Follow-ups from the ER, Urgent Care, or specialists? We can help with that too.

No vaccines, no ongoing medical issue discussions—just a straightforward exam to get your child in the game.

Tongue-tie, or ankyloglossia, is a condition that can really limit your baby's tongue movement. This happens when a short, thick, or tight band of tissue (the lingual frenulum) ties the tongue’s tip to the floor of the mouth.
Why It Matters
-
Breastfeeding struggles: Babies with tongue-tie can have a hard time latching on.
-
Eating, speaking, and swallowing issues: As they grow, kids might face challenges in these areas too.
The Fix: Frenotomy
A quick and simple surgical procedure called a frenotomy can help. Here’s how it works:
-
Examination: The doctor checks out the lingual frenulum.
-
Snip, Snip!: Using sterile scissors, they free up the frenulum.
-
Quick & Easy: The procedure is fast, with minimal discomfort and bleeding.
What to Expect
-
Minimal Pain: Few nerve endings and blood vessels in the area.
-
Quick Recovery: Most babies handle it like champs!
Potential Risks, though rare, complications can include:
-
Bleeding
-
Infection
-
Damage to the tongue or salivary glands
-
Scarring or reattachment of the frenulum

Warts—They happen to everyone, especially kids and teens. While most warts go away on their own, it can take months, sometimes even years! Although they’re harmless, they can be a real annoyance, especially depending on where they show up.
At South River Pediatrics, we have an effective solution: liquid nitrogen! Using cryotherapy (also known as cryosurgery), we freeze those pesky warts right off. It might sting for a moment, but it's totally worth it. After the treatment, a blister forms and the dead tissue falls away. We’ll continue the process every 3-4 weeks until that wart is gone for good.
Bonus: This treatment might even help strengthen your immune system to prevent future warts from popping up!Kids grow up fast. That's why regular well visits are crucial—they help us track growth, hit those developmental milestones, and address any health concerns. Plus, they keep vaccinations on schedule to guard against serious illnesses.
At South River Pediatrics, we stick to the American Academy of Pediatrics' recommended well visit schedule. Infants and toddlers, in particular, need frequent check-ups because they develop so quickly. Here’s our suggested schedule:
Newborn
2 weeks
1 month
2 months
4 months
6 months
9 months
12 months
15 months
18 months
24 months
30 months
Starting at age 3, we recommend annual well visits. Even if your child is in great health and up-to-date with vaccinations, these visits are perfect for focusing on overall wellness, nutrition, and any physical, mental, or emotional concerns you or your child might have.
Note: Annual well visits are a must if you need school, sports, or camp forms filled out.
